The Battle of Fort Stevens: The Civil War came to Washington DC in July 1864. The ensuing battle would pit Union and Confederate forces in the Battle of Fort Stevens.

• War Returns to Europe - Yugoslavia 1991: Slovenia and Croatia declared their independence from the Federal Republic of Yugoslavia on 25 June 1991. Yugoslavia would respond with force to the declaration and for the first time since 1945, war had again returned to the heart of Europe.
