Description

Palembang - Air Assault on Sumatra, February 1942: The Japanese conquest of the Netherlands East Indies was one of the most stunning Axis victories in World War II. Leading the way were Japanese Army and Navy paratroopers.

Primosole Bridge - Clash of Airborne: Sicily, July 1943: During Operation Husky, British airborne forces were tasked to seize a number of critical objectives, leading to several confused but potentially decisive actions. One of these actions began on 13 July 1943, when the British 1st Parachute Brigade found itself in a fight with the German 1st Fallschirmjäger Division at Primosole Bridge.

Other Articles:

  • Soviet Naval Operations on the Black Sea: Before the German invasion of the Russia in the summer of 1941, the Black Sea was very much a Soviet “lake.” When the war moved east, Axis and Soviet naval and air forces battled for control of the Black Sea.
  • Operation Crusader: By November 1941, Britain and her Commonwealth stood alone against the advancing tide of European fascism. One glimmer of light would emerge in North Africa as Operation Crusader provided relief for the embattled seaport at Tobruk and the subsequent liberation of Cyrenaica in Eastern Libya.
